Both reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries require skilled and licensed Ontario plastic surgeons. If you are interested in having such surgery, it is of utmost importance to hire a surgeon accredited by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
To be licensed by the board, the surgeon must be a graduate of an accredited medical school. They must also be licensed to practice in his/her state of residency. After that, they should practice general surgery under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), for at least 3 years. Then, they must finish another 2 years in ACGME for plastic surgery practice.
The requirements also include 6 months of reporting all operations, with pre and post-surgery pictures. Then, the plastic surgeons in Ontario must pass comprehensive oral and written exams.
